Oak gall, remains of egg sites. - Andricus quercusstrobilanus Hillside, Cook County, Illinois, USA October 5, 2008
After changing to brown, the galls fall to the ground. This is what is left of same galls as was seen in the original photos. In this image there are two locations on the stem where the eggs had been laid, one on the upper side and one on the lower side less then a centimeter apart. Egg sites appear to be either on the stem midway between leaf axils or on the ends of stems.
