Ohio's first Priocnemis minuscula - Priocnemis minuscula
Alger, Hardin County, Ohio, USA
October 7, 2008
Size: 9 mm
Well, just when I think I know about everything about Ohio's pompilid fauna I collect a new species. I captured this specimen with about a dozen P. cornica on a sandy, abandoned baseball diamond. I tried to net it and was unsuccessful...it was so reluctant to fly. After that I thought is was and ant and almost let it go, but then I saw wings. Good thing it was small, I had to pick it up with my bare fingers (I was without a pooter). Good characteristics are the bicolored mesosoma (all other known Priocnemis have a concolorous mesosoma) and banded, very narrow wings.
