Wolf Spider in South Central Indiana - Gladicosa pulchra - Male

For as many of these as I have on my property, there were surprisingly few photos here. I can't be sure where this goes....Maybe I am completely wrong about wolf spider.

Wolf Spider -
is correct. I'm not sure which genus or species. Nice photo! Moving to family page for now.

I am suspecting it may not be possible to get species. For the last several nights, I have informally surveyed my woods and have seen many, many of these with slight variations in color and pattern. If needed, I supposed I could bring a handful in for more thorough exams :)

Not an expert -
but, yes, my understanding is that it is hard to even get to a genus without collecting the wolf spider and examining it with a hand lens or microscope. A few genera (Pirata, eg) can sometimes be identified by the markings on the body.
