Small coiled cocoons on wall - Apterona helicoidella Houghton, Houghton County, Michigan, USA October 10, 2008 Size: About 5 mm
These little coiled cocoons are pretty common around town, usually stuck to masonry walls or windows. They are about the shape of helical snail shells, and feel like a silk tube with sand stuck all over the surface. They adhere to surfaces by one end, and only come off with difficulty. Anybody know what they are?
