Hard segmented larval? - Hermetia

Hard segmented larval? - Hermetia
Tucson, downtown, Pima County, Arizona, USA
October 12, 2008
Size: 1"
No legs, but it does crawl along the ground. I found about a dozen of this along the sidewalk. They were all covered in bits of dirt so I suspect the burrow into the ground. One end has a point the other end a possible mouth or other opening. It travels in the direction of the pointy end. Anyone have a guess as to what this is?

Possibility.
This is a fly larva of some sort, quite possibly of a soldier fly in the genus Hermetia. H. illucens is known to occur in carrion, and other decomposing organic matter. Hope we don't need to alert the authorities....
