Photuris firefly - Photuris

Photuris firefly - Photuris
University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire, USA
July 28, 2008
Size: 1.5 cm?
When in my 'Biology & Biodiversity of Insects' class this morning we discussed reproductive behaviors of insects, including fireflies. This discussion reminded me of these photos I took this summer.

this firefly was found near the ground on the side of a building (the 'Paul Creative Arts Center') during the middle of the day. it was fairly inactive & non responsive for the most part, leading me to think that it was probably asleep (?).
