Identification
Adult: basal and distal areas of forewing medium brown; midwing area whitish, with large dark brown patch extending from the costa almost to the midline, and outlined in creamy white - the patch resembles a "fur stole draped around the shoulders"; subterminal area with dark streak angled toward the apex
hindwing uniformly brown
Range
Ontario, Quebec, Maine, south to Florida, west to Texas
Season
adults fly from May (April--guide image) to September in the south; June to August in the north
Food
Larvae feed on False Nettle (Boehmeria cylindrica).
