Size: 1/2 to 3/4 inch long
Found this beautiful bug on a potted plant on my porch. I'm really interested in knowing if it is beneficial or not. He was too pretty to kill.

This appears to be one of the Slug Caterpillar Moths in the genus Euclea. There are several species in your area and I can't tell them apart. Yours seems most similar to this one:
