Trachyrhachys kiowa - female

Trachyrhachys kiowa - Female
La Sal Mountain Loop Road, Grand County, Utah, USA
August 19, 2008
Size: 27 mm
West from the Great Plains and Colorado Plateaus, the hind wings tend to have no dark band and are often clear instead of yellow. In the Dakotas, Wyoming Utah, Colorado, northern Arizona, etc. there is a wide range of variation in wing coloring where a broad blend zone occurs between these "plain" ones and those further east and south where yellow wings with a strong black band are found.
