Longlegged maybe?? - Sciapus - female

Longlegged maybe?? - Sciapus - Female
Altamonte Springs, Seminole County, Florida, USA
October 19, 2008
Not the most focused shot, but simply beautiful.

Moved
S. pallens or S. wiedemanni

Moved
Moved from Longlegged Flies.

Maybe Sciapus.

all in the guide are more slender
-

Mostly males
Most of the Sciapus in the guide are males, which are more slender in Sciapodinae in general and especially in a few Sciapus and tropical Condylostylus.

Females of at least one Sciapus have the yellow at base of abdomen. So do several Amblypsilopus.

A little closer look would show the generic characters (shape of flagellomere, shape of bend in fork of M, presence or absence of preapical bristles on hind femora).

Moved
Moved from Flies.

Very pretty
Looks like longlegged, but what spectacular color! Makes even the dazzling blue metallic ones look drab.

Dolichopodidae for sure, but
Dolichopodidae for sure, but that's as far as I can go.
