Stenopelmatus ? - Ammopelmatus

Stenopelmatus ? - Ammopelmatus
Aromas, San Benito County, California, USA
October 17, 2008
Size: ~9mm.
Two of these came to the black light last night, I assume they are both Stenopelmatus.

Moved
Moved from Jerusalem Cricket.

I see nobody answered your questions, and
hope you are still looking in. The question about sounds has an answer of no, they don't make "cricket" sounds. However, they do communicate by actions like drumming on the ground (not really something humans will hear). As for why in the house, they probably just came to the light through an open door or crack, and that's the only reason they were inside. They live outside, mostly burrowing in the soil, and wouldn't be happy for long inside a house. They are also totally harmless (though a big one might be able to pinch a bit with it's mouth).

Not an expert......
but it does look like a Jerusalem Cricket-Stenopelmatus.

Jerusalem Cricket
Why are they in our house? Do they make cricket noises?
