Aulonium parallelopipedum
Univ. Tennessee Biological Station, near Gatlinburg, Sevier County, Tennessee, USA

Size: 4 mm
Another (different) 4 mm beetle. I don't think anything similar has been posted.

Search for photos from gathering_2008.

Roger that
Yes, I knew the two 4-mm beetles were different. I left a whole lot of stuff linked as I posted it because that way the software enters some data from the previous posting. Everything is now unlinked, and thanks very much for your help.

Aulonium tuberculatum
*

Aulonium parallelopipedum (Say 1825)
It looks like there might be a little controversy over the identity of this species. We have series here at KU of both A. parallelopipedum and A. tuberculatum, some identified by Karl Stephan and others by Mike Ivie. This critter here and the other one identified as tuberculatum are dead ringers for what these folks determined as parallelopipedum. Check out the type image of A. tuberculatum on the MCZ website:

Aulonium tuberculatum

Aulonium tuberculatum has distinctly bicolored elytra and the tubercles are much more sharply defined.

Cheers, zack

Consensus? plus, images?
If there is consensus on this among the experts (you and v belov, others?) we can simply change the species label on the guide page for this taxon to parallelopipedum. That will apply the proper label to all the photos here. Comments?

Any chance you can get some images from the collection of parallelopipedum? That would be great as documentation.
