Scape and pedicel with coarse black hair and markings on tergite 2 are confluent which would point to Pipiza femoralis following Skevington`s Guide. However, Skevington`s guide warns there are problems.
There are many different forms within the concept of a species. There is uncertainty in how many species there are in North America and Europe and there is much disagreement amongst experts. There are many intermediate forms and hair colour is variable in some species. Genitalia study doesn`t seem to help and consequently DNA studies may be the only way to confidently identify to species.
