Large Stonefly

Large Stonefly
Univ. Tennessee Biological Station, near Gatlinburg, Sevier County, Tennessee, USA
August 9, 2008
Size: 17 mm body length
Attracted to lights--captured. Length measured--to tip of abdomen about 17 mm, to tip of folded wings, about 20 mm. Hmm. Looks somewhat similar to this one:

a Perlesta.

Search for photos from gathering_2008.

subfamily Perlinae
This is probably either Paragnetina or Agnetina, but it would require a dorsal shot of the male terminalia or a ventral shot of the female subgenital plate for me to distinguish them with confidence. (Both genera are rather variable in adult appearance, and some individuals are a bit more distinctive than others.)

Agree...
At the very least, this is a perlid, and can be moved to the family page for now.

thanks, moved
Moved to family level. Thanks for the information.

Probably a perlid...
but not Perlesta. It might be Paragnetina, but I'm not sure enough to suggest moving it there.
