Identification

Range
Great Plains and Prairie states east from the Rockies, from s. Canada to ne. Mexico and Texas. Eastward through the southern Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions.
Habitat
Tends to spend most of its life not more than a couple of meters above the ground. Mostly in sandhill and other open sand habitats where usually associated with shrubs and relatively rank stands of herbaceous dicots. Also in riparian areas where mostly associated with weedy areas, shrubs, and small trees in sunny areas. Occasionally found in cultivated areas, especially along lush ditchbanks, and may turn up in urban environments, and other somewhat lush habitats as well.
Season
Adults late spring to frost. Usually most abundant during the heat of summer.
Food
Mostly dicots, and apparently adapts to many different species on a regional basis.
