Am I a Brown Recluse? - Coras

Am I a Brown Recluse? - Coras
Epsom, Southern NH County, New Hampshire, USA
October 22, 2008
I believe this is a male brown recluse. I can clearly see the violin shape. I would like to get corroboration from somebody that knows more than I do.

not a recluse
First you aren't in the range for the recluse.

Second, your spider has eight eyes and the recluse only has six. Here is a recluse note the eye arrangement.

Wow, you're right.
Sorry, I guess the brown recluse thing is kind of like claiming I saw a UFO. Still, it sure did look like one. You have better eyes than I do. It took every bit of magnification and bright light I could produce to see 8 eyes, but eventually I did confirm that. It really does look like the violin on the back, though. Do you have any idea what kind of spider it might be? Thanks!!

Spider.
Could be something in the Amaurobiidae or Hahniidae. Maybe Jay Barnes or Jeff Hollenbeck can clarify with more certainty.

I agree with Eric,
and if I have to make a guess, I'd say Coras sp. Compare with

Good call.
At first I thought no, but I compared detail by detail with my high-res pic and yeah, you're right. It's a perfect match as far as I can tell. Thanks!
