Planthopper Parasite Moth - Hodges #4701 - Fulgoraecia exigua - male

Planthopper Parasite Moth - Hodges #4701 - Fulgoraecia exigua - Male
Moccasin Lake, Winston, Douglas County, Georgia, USA
August 31, 2008
Size: about 4 - 5 mm span
I went back to my original images and this was the first one that I took, I thought it was too dark and opened up the lens one stop which resulted in the second photo. The moth was clinging to an outside lamp fixture on frosted glass which made photography difficult. Looking through MPG I found #4701 - Fulgoraecia exigua which looks a lot like my image. The main difference is the missing white spot, but in the first image (Photo 9502) it can faintly be seen especially on the left wing. The moth may be worn and this could result in the missing spots. Moreover, the antennae very strongly resemble this species in shape and in teeth number (I count 13 teeth in mine and MPG). Please correct me if I'm wrong as any comments are welcome.

Thank you
Thanks Bob, I appreciate it.

Does this need a new Guide page?
I can't find it in BG. If so, please let me know or post the photo in the Forum for Additional Guide Pages...

Needs Guide page
Yes, it needs a new guide page. I'm trying to figure out how to do it (ask one to be created), but I've only done it once before and have forgotten.

Done -
this appears to be a new FAMILY for Bug Guide! Please let me know if there's any problems with the taxonomy for the pages I've created.
