Please help!

It's 4am and I've just looked through many pages of creepy bugs to identify the one I found in my basement! I couldn't find any images on the web that resembled my critter friend. I hope you can help!

I live in Toronto Ontario. I found this in my basement. It's a skinny black bug with 6 legs. It's butt is a little bit rounded and the insect is the same width in its head as it's butt. When it was provoked, it lifted its rear up. There are no pinchers or anything so I don't think it's an earwig. There are no spots or markings on it and it has two antannae.

Thanks for your help!
Danielle

sticking butt up
well, they aren't that skinny, but some darkling beetles are known for sticking their butts up. See

look at
the staplylinidae, or rove beetles, they tend to do the defensive posturing also..

rove beetle
yes, that would make more sense, since they are skinnier.
