Unknown Polistes (Polistes apachus?) - Polistes apachus - male

Unknown Polistes (Polistes apachus?) - Polistes apachus - Male
Near Dallas, Denton County, Texas, USA
October 10, 2008
Size: 1 inch or greater (25mm)
This wasp spent most of the time crawling around in the grass. Makes me think twice about walking around the back yard barefoot ...

Moved from Polistes.

Polistes cf. apachus, male (TX)
You are probably right but the angle is slightly unfortunate.

Blurry photo
Thanks for your help. One of my worst wasp pictures, but it was the best of the bunch on this one. Knowing nothing about wasps, I was keeping my distance and nervous as heck getting that close to try to get a picture. Only time I've seen one like this in my back yard.

No worries!
This male is completely harmless :D I myself cant tell you the species so hopefully an expert will
