unknown moth - Pherne subpunctata

unknown moth - Pherne subpunctata
Aromas, San Benito County, California, USA
October 21, 2008
Size: ~15mm.
Came to black light. I've just started photographing the moths which come to my black light, so I'll likely be submitting more than one photo of the same species until I get an idea of the variation within each species. (live oak/chaparral habitat).

I agree Kyle, that is what I came up with before I realized both were Gary's pictures. Gives California another later month.

.
Gary, this reminds me of your other image here: .
Might this be another Pherne?

Reminds me of an October Thor
Reminds me of an October Thorn, Hodges#6954 (Synaxis jubararia), but it's not one. (Missing couple of spots.) Still you might want to start looking around in that genus/family.

Agree on Synaxis
As to the spots .. sometimes they are very faint. Also, is the wing folded to the point of covering them? John Davis shows S. cervinaria with very faint spots and I have S. jubararia with very faint spots.
