Size: ~2mm (body only)
No idea... There were several of these on a Sago Palm covered with scale. All of them had 2 waxy 'tails'.

Moved from Cycad Aulacaspis Scale.

From the Wiki article ”The adult male has an elongated cover with parallel sides; it is white and felted, with shed skins similar in colour to the female”. The UF Featured Creature article also describes a male which forms a scale smaller and thinner than the female, but otherwise similar. Also, thecochenille states, “Males of [Diaspididae] have the head not obviously separated to the thorax”, unlike this one.

It is a male scale.
I'm concluding, based on the host plant of sago palm, that this is the "cycad aulacapsis scale," a major, major pest of that plant. I'm willing to admit I'm wrong if an expert contradicts this ID at some point. Meanwhile, let's get some images of the sessile females.

Thanks for the ID and the Genus and species pages!

Sorry but I will not be able to get any additional images because the day after the pictures were taken I wrapped a cold and rusty steel chain around the trunk of these things and ruthlessly yanked them from the ground!!

Something I wanted to do the day we bought this house but I met fierce opposition from my Wife every time I mentioned how good it would make me feel to get rid of them...
