Ant 2 on peony - Formica

Ant 2 on peony - Formica
Brampton, Peel, Ontario, Canada
June 1, 2024
5:30 PM. This ant species spent a lot of time checking the peony buds. Within minutes of photo capture, this ant was spotted by a European paper wasp, which flew and landed on the bud. The ant ran and hid from the wasp. The wasp crawled all over the bud, but appeared unable to locate the ant. After the wasp flew away, the ant reappeared and then departed the peony bud area.

What is needed
Hi, what is needed for a species ID for this ant? I may have another photo or can take one of another. Thank you.

Microscope/very good camera pictures
We would need to see the pilosity (and also pubescence, for some species) of the gastral tergites to determine species
