Wooly Darkling Beetle in LA County (April) - Eleodes osculans

Wooly Darkling Beetle in LA County (April) - Eleodes osculans
Webb Canyon, ~2000 ft. altitude, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 30, 2008
There didn't seem to be too many photos of this species and I saw that there were representative images from Riverside, San Diego and Orange Counties, so I figured I would add one from Los Angeles County.

These guys always seem to be on the move and many of my photographs are little more than a brown blur. This one had found something tasty to munch on in the leaf litter and I managed a few shots while it was busy dining. (Oh yeah, there seems to be an extremely OOF red ant to its left -- super extra bonus points if you can ID it!)

Ha, ha!
Just figured out the meaning of OOF, Out Of Focus :-)

...
Yeah, it's a pretty common acronym on nature photo sharing sites, but I remember when I first started participating in the forums I was scratching my head too. (LOL)
