Chameleon Stink Bug - Head - Brochymena quadripustulata

Chameleon Stink Bug - Head - Brochymena quadripustulata
North Shelby, Birmingham 35242, Shelby County, Alabama, USA
October 27, 2008
Size: ~17mm
See and associated images.
Found this specimen in a very dark gray state on black asphalt. Moved to tan board and it transformed to tan with red markings and some black dots.
The conspicuous notch in the front margin of the head, not shared by many other species is apparently produced by the bug at will. It is not present in the Face image, but is present in the Dorsal view.
First record in Alabama on BugGuide for this bug.

Notch in face.
No, it is structural, and there all the time, but different angles of photography make it seem to 'disappear.' Nice images.
