Hexagenia limbata
Hi buggd,

I would place this male imago as Hexagenia limbata because the compound eyes are yellowish dorsally and separated by about half the width of a compound eye. The eyes of H. atrocaudata are large, usually reddish brown dorsally and nearly contiguous (separated by the width of a lateral ocellus or less).

Best,
Lloyd

Please post all mayflies to Ephemeroptera. Further ID may be possible, but Roger, our mayfly expert, does not review images posted deeper in the Guide.

Thanks--and welcome to BugGuide!

Thank you!
I replied to your more recent comment, but my apologies again about the posting location!

Thanks for the welcome. Do you know if people generally prefer photos to be posted to family/higher taxonomic rank, even if the poster has a guess as to the genus/lower taxonomic rank? Or does it vary greatly between the expert communities of different groups? I've been a long-time BugGuide user, but I've just started posting--I am unsure about posting etiquette.
