Big, Beautiful Orb Weaver - Araneus bicentenarius
Gates County, North Carolina, USA

Size: over 1 inch
We found this spider in a sweet gum tree about 7 feet off the ground in a little leaf shelter she had made. Her web stretched to the ground and had a dragonfly tangled in it.
We went back later and caught her so we could get a picture. She was impressively heavy! Such a beautiful, beautiful spider.
