Cicindela punctulata punctulata - Cicindelidia punctulata

Cicindela punctulata punctulata - Cicindelidia punctulata
Uvalde County, Texas, USA
October 25, 2008
Found about 10-15 feet off Hwy. 83 near the Frio Bat Cave, on a dry, packed, gritty surface. I used Pearson et al.'s guide to make the ID, although I'm not sure I see the rows of pits. Comments/corrections would be welcome. I think two of the "spots" on the left elytra (that do not have corresponding spots on the right) are just dust and not part of the insect. I'm not aware of any water in the immediate area. As far as wariness, the bug allowed the camera to be held just a few inches away, but I was moving very slowly. I only saw one individual, but I wasn't looking very hard for others.

Moved from Cicindela.

Yes
Looks like punctulata. They do not need to be around water. Your individual looks intermediate between the darker ones here in the east and the very green ones in AZ.

re: yes
thanks
