The missing molt
Actually, these guys are really cool because they molt one half at a time. The other half of the molt is already gone, or isn't ready to go yet.

This photo is absolutely awesome, I've never seen one actually in the process of doing this, which is too bad because my zoology professor would have given me extra credit for bringing in a photo like this!

I've found them in a similar condition, with half a shell behind them, and wondered why.

That explains the slight color difference...
between the two halves of the Isopod. Thanks for the info and compliment! I can send you a higher res. copy of this image if you are interested. The small image here doesn't look nearly as good.
