Doris & Her Boyfriend (lower left) - Exoprosopa doris - Male Female
Riley Wilderness Park, Coto De Caza, Orange County, California, USA
November 8, 2008
Seems late in the year, so I was pleasantly surprised to see these bee flies. The smaller (male) was engaged in courtship behavior, following the female from foliage-littered path to sandy area to low flowers. The female was engaged in more what I'd call "indifference". Both were flying very slowly and showed no inclination to leave the scene, despite me gamely clumping after them on increasingly lame legs.
