Aphaenogaster tenessensis
According to Alex Wild (www.myrmecos.net), this is the only one Eastern species with this distinctive bright color.
Suspected to be a temporary social parasite of other Eastern, wood dwelling Aphaenogaster species, a bit like the Formica mound Ants are to Formica of the fusca group.

Does Aphaenogaster tenessensis belong in subgenus Attomyrma? I'm just trying to see if the species page was made in the correct location.

These were seen with..
another species of ant that was slightly smaller in size. They may have been false honey ants, but I'm not sure about that.

Aphaenogaster sp. (subgenus Attomyrma) - worker
The bright red species already posted several times on BG. Seems to be fairly widespread throughout the Atlantic States South of NY.
