Moth near Ocean, Armyworm Moth? - Peridroma saucia

Moth near Ocean, Armyworm Moth? - Peridroma saucia
Huntington Beach Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center, Orange County, California, USA
November 15, 2008
Size: 2-3cm
Found this one outside on a lighted wall. The surrounding area is across the highway from the Pacific Ocean beach, and near saltmarsh and salt panne with lots of pickleweed and residential areas built on filled in salt marsh, as well as some heavy industry. Possibly an Owlet moth in Noctuoidea? Maybe Fall Armyworm Moth - Hodges#9666 (Spodoptera frugiperda)? But that's not not known in California. maybe something similar?

Moved
Moved from Moths.

It looks as Peridroma saucia
It looks as Peridroma saucia (Noctuinae: Agrotini) for me - Hodges' List # 10915

Noctua pronuba?
This is only a guess. N. pronuba, Large Yellow Underwing, is extremely variable. When I see anything that remotely looks like N. pronuba, I give it a nudge to get it to flash its hind wings.
