Millipede - Orthoporus texicolens

Size: around 9 cm
These millipedes are from my daughter's 4th grade science. When the project was done, she brought home 4 of these; 3 females and one male. This one is Tiny Joe, and he's about 3 1/2 inches.

Question
are these wild US millipedes or pet store imports? My nephew got a few at pet stores but they were from Africa or somewhere.

remains to be seen. I've made it my daughter's job to find out from her teacher where they came from and what they are.
