Midge - Procladius bellus - male

Midge - Procladius bellus - Male
Sand Springs, Osage County, Oklahoma, USA
November 16, 2008
Size: 3mm (1/8")
Please help with ID.

Moved
Moved from Procladius. It matches the description of Tanypus pusillus Loew, a species later synonomized with Procladius bellus; Roback's later description does not include the full range of abdominal markings.

Moved
Moved from Orthocladiinae. Looking at the larger size, there seems to be an M-Cu crossvein and the color is a good match for Procladius bellus, except that the pale bands on the abdomen aren't supposed to go all the way to the end.

Moved
Moved from Midges.

Orthocladiinae
This can move to subfamily Orthocladiinae. (I pondered the legs some more.)

Midge (Chironomidae)
Not sure what kind. Neither the wing veins nor the front leg proportions are clear enough for me to make a solid ID to subfamily. Orthocladiinae seems likely, but not certain.
