Tachinid on Frost Aster - Copecrypta ruficauda Junction City, 15 mi. SE, Backyard Pollinator Garden, Geary County, Kansas, USA October 19, 2024 Size: 1/2"
Flies like this one are common now at the end of the season on Hairy Asters (Symphyotrichum pilosum). In the autumn sunlight, their colors and textures are amazing! I'd love to learn the genus and even species, if possible. I want to learn what they're doing when not drinking nectar! Thank you so much for your help.
