Identification
See Stonedahl (1990) for key to species.
(2)
Dissected males may be necessary to identify some species.
Stonedahl's key doesn't include A. griseolus, which was placed in the genus by Schuh (2001)
(3), or A. mali, which Stonedahl considered incertae sedis and may eventually be placed in a new genus.
Two additional Mexican species (bicolor & teopisca) described by Stonedahl & Schwartz (1994).
Range
Holarctic. In our area, from Canada to south-central Mexico
(2)Food
Wide variety of host plants, with some species being polyphagous and others more host-specific. Oaks are a common host plant
(2)Life Cycle
The few broadly distributed North American species (
atricolor, balli, miniatus, and
rubidus) tend to be inhabitants of widely distributed hosts (e.g.,
Quercus spp.,
Salix spp.), or in the case of
balli, apparently polyphagous on a number ofsimilar host plants.
