Phthia picta - Phthiacnemia picta
Austin, Hornsby Bend Wastewater Treatment Plant, Travis County, Texas, USA
September 20, 2008
Size: about 15 mm
This genus/species doesn't seem to be represented here yet. It resembles Leptoglossus but does not have flanges on the hind tibia. Color is quite variable, with both nymphs and adults having more or less orange/red and dark colors. ID confirmed using Baranowski and Slater's "Coreidae of Florida." This species prefers plants in Solanaceae and these were feeding on Silver-leaf Nightshade (Solanum elaeagnifolium). This individual has no orange bar across the pronotum, but others do.
