grasshopper - Chorthippus curtipennis

grasshopper - Chorthippus curtipennis
Elkton, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
July 14, 2008
Size: 3/4 inch +/-
I'm hoping this image is good enough for some sort of ID and sex determination.

sometimes nymphs can be tricky
but I'm pretty sure this is a nearly mature (last = 5th instar) nymph of Chorthippus curtipennis. It's difficult to tell the gender, since the tip of the abdomen is blurred. Still, shots at this angle always seem to bring out a personality in these critters.
