Carmenta pallene (Druce) - Carmenta pallene - male

Carmenta pallene (Druce) - Carmenta pallene - Male
Patagonia / 1 mile east along Sonoita Creek., Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
October 19, 2007
Size: 6-9 mm
This small Carmenta species was originally described from Tabasco, Mexico. The first U.S. record was reported from near Portal, Arizona in 1978 (MONA 5.1 Sesioidea/Sesiidae by Eichlin & Duckworth 1988). Our specimens were collected much farther west in the Patagonia Mountains and show that this moth is likely more wide-spread in southern Arizona. The moth was collected by William Taft and Ned Schaper using pheromone traps.
