Cranefly105 - Dolichopeza carolus

Cranefly105 - Dolichopeza carolus
Black River, Morris County, New Jersey, USA
June 19, 2004
I'm cleaning out my crane flies and noticed I had the old image identified as a Cladura sp. Not sure how I got that ID though it doesn't look far off. I might have posted it previously and then frassed it.

Moved
Moved from Crane Flies.

Chen confirmed Dolichopeza carolus: "...it is a Dolichopeza carolus, the dark stigma is a good sign for Dolichopeza. Brachypremna does not have such a distinct stigma."

No, don't think so.....
Try Brachypremna dispellens. The resting posture of that species is so bizarre as to be almost diagnostic. This image seems to strongly suggest that species.

That Looks Better...
What do you think about Dolicho*peza carol*us? I went to Chen Young's web site and found images of Dolicho*peza in that hanging position and, from what I could see of the wing venations, seem to match pretty well.

This image is pretty low quality. Should I frass it?

Moving to family level.
I wouldn't frass it. I don't have time at the moment to delve deeper, but don't be afraid to approach Chen on this.
