Lemon Cuckoo Bumble Bee, abdomen - Bombus citrinus - female

Lemon Cuckoo Bumble Bee, abdomen - Bombus citrinus - Female
Plymouth Rock, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
July 5, 2008
Size: 2 cm+
The yellow hairs on the 3rd abdominal tergite and the presence of Bombus impatiens in the area leads me to think Bombus citrinus. However the yellow hairs on the head, outer edge of the 1st abdominal tergite and outer posterior edge of the 2nd abdominal tergite make me question. Is this individual variation or some other cuckoo bumble bee? Thanks.

Malaise trap: 17-Jun-2008 to 5-Jul-2008
