8166 - Garden or Great Tiger Moth - Arctia caja
Patrick has the species correct. Not often encountered by photographers in North America (so far) but it extends across the northern tier of States and Canada. Variation in forewing markings is probably extreme, and different from Old World specimens due to small "founder effect" genetics. Please email me at BPatter789@aol.com if you will grant permission for your photos to appear on the
Living Moths Plate for Arctiidae
at Moth Photographers Group.

Tiger Moth, likely Arctia caja
Looks like Garden Tiger Moth or Great Tiger Moth,
Arctia caja
(species complex), shown by Miller, p. 33.

shows is is found in the Pacific Northwest. It is also found in Eurasia. A Google image search will show lots of images from the Old World.
