Sigela - Sigela brauneata

Sigela - Sigela brauneata
Moccasin Lake, Winston, Douglas County, Georgia, USA
August 16, 2008
Not completely sure about this one, but it seems to match Sigela brauneata-Hodges #8432 of which there are no images in BG. Identified using photos from MPG. Attracted to lights.

8432 - Sigela [=Quandara] brauneata
...looks exactly like some specimens from my yard in Maryland. I've encountered these during the period Jun. 1 - July 14. It is possible that I have seen them outside the period covered by my photos, but I can't be sure of that. Some historical data for Maryland gives a flight period of May 17 - July 28. Your date is not outrageously beyond that for a moth that is little collected and mistakenly left unidentified in collections among the micros. This is the smallest Noctuid found in Maryland (and probably also in Georgia). You should send your photo and date to James Adams for his records on Georgia Lepidoptera.

Thank you
Thank you Bob for the comment. I'll send the info to James Adams. I'm glad that some of my photos can be of some use and I will continue to go after the neglected species as often as possible.
