request for coordinates
Shelby, would you be able to give me coordinates for where you saw this butterfly? (on Google Maps you can get there by looking up State Game Lands #282, Pine Grove Township, PA) Baltimores were known from this site, but since the area was brushhogged during the winter of 2005-6, no Baltimores have been reported and there was concern that had not survived/returned, so it is very encouraging to see this photo.

This should be pretty close, I remember this one well. I have a second photo of a Baltimore Checkerspot from there dated 7/12/2009. The only thing I can say about location on the second one is that it was somewhere along the same railroad grade that follows the river. Does someone survey the area regularly? I would be very interested in seeing a species list for Akeley Swamp if such a thing exists, and who knows, maybe I could add to it.

Akeley Swamp butterfly list
Shelby, this species list comes from Jerry McWilliams, who visits this site every year to check on the broadwing skippers, Dion skippers, black dashes, and the eyed browns. These, plus the bronze copper and Baltimore, are species of concern in PA. If you find any of those please email me.
