Satyrium sp. - probably California H. - Satyrium californicum - Female
Johnsondale, Tulare County, California, USA

Was told this was a Sylvan. Not sure that I can rule out California.

Moved
Moved from Satyrium.

Thanks for your help. Didn't
Thanks for your help. Didn't realize that this was such a rare one, at least in BG.

Looks more like
S. californica to me too. There usually isn't so much orange on a Sylvan (there shouldn't be any on the front wing). However, it is rather pale below, the orange spots are small, and there is no orange capping the blue spot and very little below it, which are all characteristics usually associated with S. sylvanus (but not constant ones), making it a confusing individual. These two can be confusingly similar, and some accounts would have them perhaps blending or hybridizing in some areas. This one appears to be a very plump female.

Thanks. Maybe I'll just leav
Thanks. Maybe I'll just leave this as Satyrium sp. I'm glad that you found this confusing as well.

It's probably a California
now that I look at it more. It's seems like it might have a little too much orange to be a Sylvan
