Moth #3 - Catocala amatrix

Moth #3 - Catocala amatrix
Kent, Connecticut, USA
September 1, 2008
Found on wall under light at Marvelwood School

something in genus Catocala
Catocala isn't my comfort area, but this one surely falls within ghe genus. As for id to species level, I can only make a guess... perhaps – Catocala amatrix.

Excellent guess.
If it 'is' C. amatrix, then the moth should have been relatively enormous. They are large animals as moths go.

gee, thanks!
it was the only one in the genus that had such clearly marked dark areas on the forewings that parallel to the body.
