A very large solitary wasp which may be nesting under a closed awning. Is this Polistes major?

Thanks. After reading some of the comments on this wasp, guess I'll try to be more careful taking photos of it.

 
No worry this time
Carefulness is needed as soon as you get close to a populous nest. But a lonesome (better than "solitary", because Paper Wasps are basically social insects) female like this one doesn't present any danger unless you manipulate her ruthlessly.
