holarctic, across s. Canada to AK, and less common to the south -

Habitat
fields, meadows, yards, gardens; adults active day and night, come to lights
Food
young nymphs of the first generation feed on leaves of currant, gooseberry, apple, pear, and plum
older nymphs and adults of the first generation, and all stages of the second generation feed on leaves of many herbaceous plants, including potato, sugarbeet, and strawberry, as well as raspberry
Life Cycle
two generations per year; overwinters as an egg on woody plants; up to 6 eggs/day are laid on woody hostplants in fall, each female laying up to 200 eggs; these eggs hatch in spring, and first generation nymphs feed on woody hosts, then move to herbaceous hosts to complete their development; second generation oviposition and feeding occurs almost entirely on herbaceous plants
