Has an elongate pronotum and is very smooth, lacks any punctation.

I would, but when the Meloe d
I would, but when the Meloe dehydrated it's body kind of caved in on itself so a dorsal shot looks like a black line with no defineable or note worthy traits, but I can still take a pic. Dennis reccomended freeze drying them, but unfortunetaly no one is willing to lend their freezers to me...I wonder why.

Nice beetles!!
You can also submerge the live specimens in 70% or higher ethyl alcohol for a few days, or a week even, and then take them out to pin after that and air dry them. My Meloids don't 'deflate' after pinning and drying using this method. You can also inject them with a bit of ethyl alcohol during this submerged time, it helps too.

A view of the pronotum from above would be good no matter what the abdomen looks like. I hadn't thought of the alcohol George, though I always complain about how it stiffens and dehydrates the tissues prior to pinning. It should have a positive effect with Meloe.

Females of this species reach
Females of this species reach lengths of 30 mm and can be quite bloated looking. Hopefully we'll see them next time you visit.
