Coleoptera - Bitoma quadriguttata

Coleoptera - Bitoma quadriguttata
Norfolk, Virginia, USA
December 13, 2008
Size: ~3mm
Another Bitoma quadriguttata hibernating in an ant nest. The ants don't seem to know that it's there, or they are not interested in it? I thought this might be an interesting image to add. A good survival strategy on the beetle's part. These are false honey ants, I believe.

Ants are Odorous Ants (Tapinoma sessile)
Prenolepis imparis is shinier, with a somewhat different, although superficially similar, outline. The color of these workers is misleading, since only the one lower right has the adult jet black color. The four others are still immature.

Ahhh...
Then I stand corrected! Thanks Richard.
