Grape vine scale - Pulvinaria vitis - female

Grape vine scale - Pulvinaria vitis - Female
University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire, USA
July 1, 2008
Size: 5 mm (sans cotton)
Found on a wild grape vine, tended by an ant.

Pulvinaria vitis (cottony grape scale)
The cottony egg sac made me think Pulvinaria, and thanks to the host plant I quickly found P. vitis--there are images on this page that look enough like yours to convince me.

Looks right to me!
Thanks for the help. :)

I remembered seeing a photograph of this or a relative in one of my field guides, but I don't have the book with me at the moment (it's back at college) so I can't go back & say what it was.
First time I've seen this scale, though I've certainly seen others... I'll try & post their pictures soon. :)
